Competition Categories
The only group category we have in the competition is the
Family/ group category. All other categories are for individuals
only.
It is up to you to decide which category you should enter, and
if you find yourself helping with your child’s artwork a little
more that expected, you can always change your entry at the
registration table to the Family/ Group Category.
This makes it fair for those children who do work on their own.
At Riverworks we will rely on an honesty system, and there will be
no monitoring of this aspect of the competition by the
organisers.
On Sunday 30th March at approximately 3pm judges will
announce the winners in the following categories:

Also as the last entries for the competition are at 2pm on
Sunday, there will be an overlap of an hour until all the
prizewinners are announced. We will be providing activities for you
to enjoy during this period, but we also ask that you be patient as
the judges undergo the massive task of deliberating who the winners
for 2008 will be.
- The following conditions are on the Riverworks Entry Form. Your
signature is required to indicate your agreement to these
conditions before you can participate
- I understand that there is a size limit placed on the artwork I
create for this competition
- (40cm x 40cm x 60cm), and that to be eligible to win a prize,
my work must be under this size.
- I understand that all materials and tools to create my artwork
will be supplied on the day and that I cannot bring my own
supplies. I also understand that access to sharp tools will be
restricted and assistance from the tool table can be obtained to
cut any material or drill holes as required.(This keeps the
competition fair and safe for all).
- I understand that no works are to be placed in the river.
- I understand that my work may be photographed and used for
publicity purposes to promote Riverworks, and by our sponsors for
same.
- I understand that photographs of myself/ my child may be used
to promote Riverworks in the future.
- I understand that if I am not able to pick up my sculpture by
3pm, Sunday 30th March, the materials used in my work may be
returned to Reverse Garbage for re-recycling.
- I understand and agree that if my work is selected, it may be
used for further exhibition to promote the Riverwork’s
Environmental Sculpture Competition.
- As a parent/ guardian, I understand that children who
participate in the exhibition are not the responsibility of the
Riverworks volunteers, and as such I need to remain close by to
monitor my child’s whereabouts. (Why don’t you join in and make
your own sculpture!)
- I understand that access to the judging area is restricted and
that all judges’ decisions will be final.
- I participate in Riverworks 2008 at my own risk and release the
organizers and any persons assisting in conducting the event from
any claim of liability caused by my participation in the
competition, including any injury or damage that I or my children
suffer as a result of my/our participation, including any injury or
damage caused by their negligence.
Please note that you can only register to make your
environmental sculpture on one of the two days.
When you arrive at Gough Whitlam Park, you will see a
registration table set up in front of a large blue marquee.

There will be a table of
raw materials to create your environmental sculpture, and a
selection of ways to bind, stick and wrap your selected materials
together. Please do not bring your own tools or materials.
Volunteers will be available in the Tool Tent to help you if you
want to drill a hole, or cut something with a stanley knife. This
is so we can make sure that we keep track of all the sharp tools
and no children hurt themselves with them.
Remember that everyone is in the same situation that you are,
and restrictions such as no direct access to tools, can actually
force you to be creative in new ways.
There is size limit of is 40 x 40 x 60 cm on all
works.
The size limit is in place for two reasons.
- To keep the event manageable.
With so much interest in Riverworks combined with our desire to
provide you with a variety of exciting materials, we need a size
restriction in place so that the event is manageable.
- Riverworks exhibition
We also intend to exhibit a selection of the artworks at the Cooks
River Art and Sustainability Festival, on Sunday the 13th April,
and small scale artworks are more easily transported. You’ll also
appreciate this fact if you decide to take your wonderful creations
home.
